This month, the Blog Squad theme is gratitude, and I keep coming back to how much of it is tied up in a home. Not the size of a house or how put-together it looks, but the smaller, quieter parts: a table someone gathered around, a door someone walked through in a hard week, a hand-lettered heart hanging by the entry because it says something true.
That is the spirit of this new design. “Thankful Hearts Make Happy Homes” started as a single quote I had been sitting with, and once I started sketching, I realized it needed the fall clutter around it: maple leaves in three different colors, because gratitude rarely shows up as one clean color, and a cluster of hearts because thankfulness is not really a solo practice. You notice it because of other people.

I built it as a layered SVG so it could become many different things depending on what someone needs this season: a cut sign for an entryway, a card front, a gift tag for a hostess, a small shadow box for a shelf. That is usually how I decide a design is finished, when I can picture it doing more than one job.
Since buying my house, gratitude has felt less like a holiday theme and more like an ongoing project. I am still figuring out which rooms feel like home and which ones are still just rooms, and I think that is part of why this quote stuck with me. A happy home is not a finished thing. It is something a thankful heart keeps building, one ordinary day at a time.
This month, I am giving “Thankful Hearts Make Happy Homes” away as my free file for the Blog Squad hop, so you can cut it, print it, or turn it into whatever your own household needs this fall. Its clean, bold lines cut beautifully with Cricut and Silhouette machines and work well for both vinyl and paper crafting projects. If you make something with it, I would love to see it.
