This year, I released a new product in my shop—a gift card tag! It’s a simple, yet elegant, paper craft that coordinates beautifully with the handmade cards I design, and I love its versatility. I first started offering them in my booth at art fairs, and during one show, a few customers asked me, “What can I do with these?” That got me thinking… There are so many fun ways to use them beyond just holding a gift card.
Today, I’m sharing five creative ways to use a gift card tag.
1. Give a Gift Card in Style
We all know gift cards are practical, but sometimes they feel a little impersonal. That’s exactly why I created these tags! Slip a gift card into the pocket, tie it onto a present, and you’ve instantly elevated a simple gift into something elegant and thoughtful. Pair it with one of my coordinating handmade cards, and it looks like you spent a lot of extra time—even though it’s quick and easy.
2. Attach a Personal Note
Sometimes you just want to say a little thank you or thinking of you. A gift card tag is the perfect spot to tuck in a handwritten note. Imagine attaching it to a small bag of treats for a teacher, a loaf of banana bread for a neighbor, or a little surprise for a friend. It’s a sweet way to add personality and care to even the simplest gestures.
3. Turn It into a Holiday Ornament
Here’s a festive idea: use them as ornaments! My family has a tradition of tucking cards into the branches of our Christmas tree, and these gift card tags make that tradition even prettier. You could even create a little “gift card tree” by hanging several tags if your family exchanges a lot of gift cards during the holidays. It’s both decorative and practical!
4. Add Charm to Business Packaging
If you’re a small business owner like me, packaging matters. These tags offer a unique way to hold a business card, thank-you note, coupon, or small message to include with your customer orders. It’s a personal, handmade detail that makes your package stand out and gives your customers a little extra surprise.
5. Use It in Your Journal
For my fellow journal lovers—this is one of my favorites. A gift card tag can easily be repurposed as a journaling pocket. Slip in small keepsakes, such as ticket stubs, mini photos, or handwritten notes. Write on the back to document dates, memories, or special details. Whether you’re working in a junk journal, art journal, or travel journal, these tags add charm and functionality.
More Than Just a Tag
These are just a few ideas, but honestly, the possibilities are endless. I’d love to see how you use your tags—so if you try something creative, leave me a comment or share it on social media and tag me!
